Metamorphosis and the concept of the human-animal hybrid used to metaphoric ends are major themes in Pondick’s work. She sees these themes as part of a continuum of artistic cross-fertilization that occurs when art and ideas travel across time and borders. The hybrid (from the Latin hybrida, a cross between different races or social classes) is an arbitrary juxtaposition of different elements. A hybrid marks a transition from a given form, existing in nature, to another that combines with it, starting from humanity’s imaginary itself.
